A Very Hungry Snack

Sorry friends, I've been bad at posting updates on here except for once every week or two. I am working on multiple projects at the moment and it's been a juggling act but I can assure you, we are still having the same fun creating things as always around here. It just takes me a teensy weensy bit longer to post.

Anyhoo, those of you who read children's books may have guessed what today's food is all about...

I love Eric Carle books (who doesn't?) and The Very Hungry Caterpillar is of course a classic, and a favorite of mine.

Hehe. This one is a little silly to me but Alexis knew who it was right away.
It was snack time around our way and the girls were itchin' to eat but Alexis asked for a "special" snack so I threw this together on the fly.

The very hungry caterpillar, who of course munched on those whole wheat crackers on the top of the plate before he perched himself on the pretzel rods on the bottom of the plate, is made from red Gala apple and Granny Smith apple slices. His head is actually three Gala slices (cut right from the side of the apple) stacked on top of each other, and each body segment is a Granny Smith slice. I cut out a crescent-shaped piece of apple skin to give him a mouth, and his eyes are candy eyes. His feet are raisins. There is also a little blog of Nutella for dipping the apples.

Cute, Quick, and fits the part!
We like to read books in the mornings at our house. It would be a perfect preschooler day to read The Very Hungry Caterpillar then serve this up for snack. You could even decorate the plate with other small snacks that have "bites" taken from them by the caterpillar.

Enjoy everyone!!
See you on the next "Tuesday FunFoodsDay!" or in the in between if there is something else fun to share :)
